ABOUT

Alyssa Reiser Prince (b. 1986) is an artist currently residing in Hartsville, South Carolina, USA. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, USA. She earned an MFA from Clemson University (2013) and a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2018). She has exhibited her work at venues across the United States. In 2013, she was selected as the Emerging Artist-in-Residence at Pennsylvania State University, Altoona College. In 2022, her paintings were selected for the Jackson’s Painting Prize Longlist, London.

Alyssa’s most recent series of paintings explore how we create meaning in our lives through experiencing place and landscape. The work describes an unstable space, reminiscent of the fragility and intensity of memory. Colors shift and blur, dynamic marks build the surface and dissipate, describing spaces that seem to exist as we know them, yet change at a moment’s notice. Through the act of painting, the recreation of these places and landscapes is often futile, a reminder of the dynamic relationship between our bodies, minds, and place.
