Mike Alexander, Kamloops BC

 

Mike Alexander is an Anishinaabe artist from Swan Lake First Nation in Treaty #1 territory in Manitoba, now relocated to his new home in Kamloops, BC, Canada.

At 40, he began his journey as a working artist with original ink drawings inspired by symbolism of his Ojibway roots as well as his life-long appreciation for high contrast black and white ink drawings. Mike had his first solo exhibition of drawings in 2017, he soon began working and exhibiting with larger scale paintings and has recently gained representation with the Descendants First Nations Art Gallery, here in Duncan.

His art depicts images motivated by his personal healing journey, his understanding of the interconnectedness between all life and the appreciation of and his pride in his cultural heritage.

Mike will be hosting an artist talk and exhibition of his works at The Descendants Art Gallery at the completion of his residency.
